Gallegos Bennett
Founder/Executive
Director, Christian CoParenting®
With over thirty six years experience as a child of divorce, Tammy
has had a lifelong journey of living between two households. Her
parents were very young when Tammy was born and when she was only
five months old, Tammy’s journey began between two families,
two households, two cities and eventually new stepparents and siblings.
Collectively, Tammy was the “child” in six different
divorces that involved one of her biological parents and she learned
first hand what “living between two houses” looked like.
Tammy spent her primary school years in Colorado, between Denver
and Colorado Springs and then went to college in southern California.
“I accepted the Lord as my Savior at the age of 15, after
three very amazing people shared His Love with me. It was a process
that took words, actions and much patience on the part of my friends,
but it all finally made sense after an all-night conversation in
October of 1984. Since that point, I have been striving to live
my life to glorify God and to point others to Him. I have experienced
many disappointing surprises along the journey, but God always uses
them for His good. As the scriptures say, not all things are good,
but God can use them all for His good” (Romans 8:28).
After an eight-year marriage,
Tammy is now six years into the coparenting process with her former
spouse, John, and their seven-year-old daughter, Angelia. Tammy’s
passion has turned from her career in the music industry towards
full-time ministry with Christian CoParenting. Her desire is to
give hope and vision to parents who have gone through divorce and
are raising children between two houses. Tammy feels it is absolutely
critical to give children of divorce an environment of “life”
and “blessings” instead of “death” and “curses”
(Deuteronomy 30:19-20).
In her seminars, Tammy
encourages parents to be kind, Christ-like and very intentional,
for the sake of the children, in every detail of life! Her goal
is to not only give parents a better way to coparent, but to help
them understand the ‘why’ behind the ‘what’
so that their children can live whole and happy lives between two
households.
“Years ago someone
shared the analogy of a ‘pearl’ with me and that has
always stayed in the foremost part of my mind: A pearl is created
out of years and years of pain. A piece of sand grinds away between
two shells for a very long time, causing discomfort and creates
a raw wound that eventually…. After much time has passed….
becomes a beautiful and precious pearl. The analogy of this process
is true in my life,” says Tammy, “in that the difficulties
that I have experienced for years and years have now found their
way into becoming a pearl that I can share with others.” Our
goal is to minimize the losses and equip parents with the tools
to do life well for the sake of their children.
Tammy has walked through
many difficulties in her life that most would say are unfortunate
and very disappointing; Tammy’s opinion, however, is that
God allows us to experience brokenness so that we may more deeply
minister to others, feel the depth of their pain and to sit quietly
at their side and simply listen and cry (2 Corinthians 12:9).
Tammy is a vibrant and
optimistic woman whom most would describe as outgoing, spontaneous,
fun-loving and a great friend. She is also considered to be diligent,
an over achiever and one that pours her whole heart into each project
she takes on.
Tammy holds a Business
Administration degree in Music Business and an Associated Arts degree
in Music Education from Pacific Christian College in Fullerton,
California (now known as Hope International). During her undergrad
experience, Tammy specialized in the music industry by doing a one-year
intensive program at Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee.
The one-year program turned into a permanent move and now Tammy
has lived in the Nashville community for over 15 years. Tammy is
pursuing a Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy at Trevecca in
Nashville.
Her professional experience
includes major event production for various music companies: Sparrow
Records, Word Entertainment, Warner Brothers, Reunion, Vida, GMA,
Expolit, the Hispanic Prayer Breakfast with President George W.
Bush (for Hispanic pastors and leaders) and many others. She started
Bennett's Events in 1998, a full-service event production company,
producing events for various music and book clients across the country.
Bennett’s Events has served the Christian and mainstream trade
industries in the areas of event production, marketing, sponsorships
and promotions. Tammy has recently produced national events for
HarperCollins Publishers, CeCe Winans and the Always Sisters Conference
and the “It’s A Mom Thing” event for Howard Books
with Chonda Pierce, Kim Hill and Sandi Patty. Details related to
Bennett’s Events can be found at www.BennettsEvents.com.
Tammy has served on various
committees and boards related to the music industry; however, her
most important achievements include being Mommy to Angelia, a good
friend to her former spouse, John, and an advocate and a voice for
children of divorced families.
Tammy and her daughter,
Angelia, reside in Nashville. Tammy is a member at Fellowship Bible
Church in Franklin, Tennessee where she is currently co-facilitating
DivorceCare meetings and co-leading the Single Parent Ministry.
Tammy is currently serving as the Program Director for the NAACC
(Nashville Area Association of Christian Counselors).
